Stupid power outage

Okay, so late last night I was struggling with the cleaning up and editing of a story I did a long time ago, and was being frutstrated by the fact that it wouldn't let me use the listing tags ([ul] and [ol]) when there was the merest flicker in power... my clocks didn't need resetting, but my computer restarted. Yes, that's right, I was dumb enough not to have saved the edited version. Granted, it only took me 20 minutes, but I'd been trying to get the listing tags to work for about an hour... and so it went poof. I'll try again later today, but mostly I'm miffed about having lost the synopsis/teaser I wrote. I dunno if I'll be able to phrase it that well again. *sigh*

I write with a Laptop

By dumb luck and bad fortune, I was left with only my laptop. It is about 6 years old and the day it fails, I will be off the internet for a long while. Still, the power can do what it wants and I don't lose files.

I've learned enough that I hope that I can afford to buy a UPS with any new computer I get.

Sorry you lost files.

Was that here?

Um? I can actually set the software to make periodic saves automatically. This annoys me and causes overhead on the site but should I do it? How many write directly to the screen? I've had this happen to me and so I usually don't write directly to the site, using instead Pages or one of my other wp programs, except for comments like this. :)

Yes, here, but no, don't set it to save

The first time I've been dumb about it in forever and I reap what I've sown :)

I have the original text, just need to re-edit it and re-write the intro.

Though, I'd appreciate you looking into why the listing tags wouldn't work...

A good compromise, maybe, is (if it's possible) set it up to save a "draft" when previewed that's discarded if it's previewed again (because it's replaced) or if it's submitted.

I'll look into it...

I'm not sure it can save a draft (without custom coding) but there is a provision for going BACK a revision. I've always thought that was a surefire way to encourage support requests. :)
