What! the power's out again??

The power is out again. How often have I read in the blog section that this storm or that may affect the status of a web server. How often will this happen to you? When I lived by the Susquehanna River in Maryland I could rely on the electricity going out with every thunderstorm.

Now for many this is an occurrence which is becoming more frequent and for a variety of reasons. This may occur due to your energy provider not being able to supply electricity equal to demand resulting in brown outs and black outs. This may occur due to natural disaster, be it ice, wind, fire, flooding and more.

When we prepare for natural disasters we're are told that we should maintain stores of food, water, medical supplies, some form of heating. It is possible to also have back up energy. Yes we all think of gas powered generators, but other systems are available. I’m not trying to tell you what is all available here but..

The weekend of June 20-22 2008 The Midwest Renewable Energy Association will be holding the 19th Annual Energy Fair featuring workshops, exhibits, food & entertainment. The fair is located about ten miles East of Stevens Point Wisconsin off of highway 10, in Custer Wisconsin. The turnoffs for the fair are posted, but watch your mileage, so that you’re looking for the signs. You can find more information at... http://www.the-mrea.org/energy_fair.php

Now not everyone wishes to travel to this fine state or they can not do it for this date. Good News, there are events through out the nation and indeed the world. A good source on the topic of renewable energy is Home Power Magazine Online (and in print) where many of the events nation wide and world wide are listed in their RE happenings section. These fairs and other named events are where you can find out more about alternative and sustainable living. You can find this event list at...

These are no longer dreams, and with the increasing cost of energy, and decreasing cost of alternatives it is time to become better informed and consider....maybe it’s time.
