Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

In the small town of Swallow Falls - situated just under the 'A' of 'Atlantic', we join young Flint Lockwood as he displays to his young classmates, his invention for curing the issue of untied shoelaces - spray-on shoes! Sadly, these shoes don't come off and Flint becomes the laughing stock of the class; an outcast.

Nevertheless, Flint is determined to become the world's greatest inventor and after his mother encourages him by giving him a regulation-grade lab-coat, he sets about inventing.

He invents a remote control TV, which immediately runs away, rat-birds, which carry children away and generally makes himself a menace. Meanwhile, the island's main source of income - sardines, become unsellable as people realise that they're gross and the island's greedy mayor decides to create Sardine World, in the hopes of bringing tourists to the island.

A news station sends an intern weather reporter, Sam Sparks over to cover the grand opening just as Flint tests his new invention - a machine that creates food from water. Unfortunately, this all goes horribly wrong and winds up in orbit after destroying Sardine world.

Flint's world is turned on its head and as he sits at the end of the pier, it starts raining hamburgers, which are unanimously considered "significantly better than sardines".

This is where the fun really begins and as Earl Devereaux, an over zealous cop, tries to beat the something or other out of Flint for messing things up again, the town decides they like the fact that it rains food... well food other than sardines, that is.

The animation is superb, and instead of making the characters super-lifelike, a more cartoony-style look is given to them, but the biggest plus is what is not right up front. Mr T plays Earl, the cop and references to his 'A'-Team character abound as to other references for example, to War of the Worlds.

The dialogue is slick, witty and definitely adult oriented, with perhaps a slight smattering of Airplane about it, making this movie something more than just a kid's film that the family can tolerate - well, in my opinion anyway!

This is definitely something that will have you wondering what the heck is going on and then laughing like a drain. Even if you don't have kids, what the hey, just rent it download it or buy it, it's definitely got that little bit extra.

Coming next: Speed Racer.
